Well I have finally handed off my new album to Mr Rodney Lee to mix. To have it leave my hands finally is quite an amazing feeling. I have spent over a year working on this project and I have to say I am very proud of it. It is certainly the deepest album I have ever made. But I'm sure I say something similar every time a new one is finished, and quite rightly I think. If each one got 'less deep' I would be worried.
The album is called "Blue Bolero" and is an orchestral, somewhat cinematic journey from start to finish. I got all my usual pals to play on this one, along with stunning performances from keyboard wizard Mitchel Forman and flautist Katisse Buckingham.
It's very different from anything I have done before. For the first time I decided to go as left as my creative mind would allow, compositionally speaking. It's definitely chilled out (for the most part), in a jazz trio setting (brushes/upright bass) with orchestra and my jazz guitar right down the middle. But always with a hypnotic and groovy feel. This is something I have always wanted to do.
So when does it come out, I hear you ask? Well it is in Rodney's capable hands now for a couple of months, and I need to now spend a good amount of time transcribing the whole album so we can play it live, but also I want to make the transcriptions available to those who want them, including my solos. I did this for the Love & Paragraphs album with tremendous success. And you can imagine, this takes an awful lot of time to do.
And then there is all that bloody marketing to do. Photo shoots, artwork, manufacturing, setting up of distribution etc. I don't like to scrimp on this. It has to be done right.
And with all that (and an economic recession that I would love to see come to a close) I think a 2010 first quarter release seems about right. It certainly will be no later I can assure you of that.
Other than that, I am busy writing and producing more and more pop artists as time goes on, and I am enjoying this parallel career.

Wayman Tisdale A Wonderful Man- Gone Too Soon. Share Your Thoughts and Memories With Us

Wayman Tisdale dies from cancer at 44
Wayman on his battle with cancer
"It really showed me what's important in life, man. It's not getting as many houses as I can, not driving the biggest cars," he says. "What's important is family and being healthy."
Wayman Tisdale, who this year was elected to the College Basketball Hall of Fame, died this morning at the age of 44.
The passing of the three-time All-American at Oklahoma was confirmed by the University of Oklahoma and CBS Sports. Tisdale had lost a leg to cancer recently, and had been fighting the disease for two years. Tisdale still holds the record at Oklahoma for the most points scored by any player through their freshman and sophomore seasons.
He won a gold medal as a member of the 1984 U.S. Olympic basketball team and the Indiana Pacers made Tisdale the second overall pick in the 1985 NBA Draft.
As a center and power forward, Tisdale averaged over 15 points and six rebounds per game in a 12-season pro career with the Pacers, Sacramento Kings and Phoenix Suns. His best season was in 1989-90 with the Kings, when he averaged 22.3 points and 7.5 rebounds a game.
Since retiring from the NBA in 1997, Tisdale had recorded several jazz albums and had performed on worldwide tours and collaborated with artists like country music star Toby Keith.
Tisdale learned he had cancer after slipping on a staircase at his home, and the ease with which a leg bone shattered alarmed doctors.

I was so happy to be on the this years Smooth Jazz Cruise. Where the Wayman, his wife Regina and beautiful daughters and son shared their stories of faith. I was moved and inspired by how Wayman and Regina stood together as a family to fight the cancer that sought to destory even the spirit of this big man who had a big heart and unmoveable faith in God. Like the song Wayman sings on his latest release "Rebound" "It's all right, it's ok, hold your head up keep the faith...It's alright it's ok God will make a way."
Hi Miranda,
A bad shadow has cast a dark cloud over me this day. I just learned of the death of my favorite musician Wayman Tisdale. Of course I didn't know the man personally, but I really enjoyed his music he always played with so much passion and fun. I didn't know that he was a NBA ball-er either but what I do know is he was one of the best basset that I had ever heard and I will miss his music and the excitement of buying his latest album.
Now Wayman can rest with out pain or worry,am d may God bless his soul. I'm So Sad. I will say a prayer for his family.
Sincerley,
Sharon Dunbar

Hi, Miranda-
I was so sorry to hear about this. I will always remember him as a kind, generous and beautiful human being. Looking at this photo made me smile. This is the first event I shot for KKSF and I will always remember him this way...
1 million blessings,
Teri

Basia is My Special Guest This Saturday At Noon!

"It's that Girl Again" her first new release in almost 15 years
Meet Basia In Store this Saturday at 4pm
Borders 588 Francisco Blvd, West San Rafael, CA 94901
It's That Girl Again showcases the Polish songstress in a variety of settings over 13 new tracks. A host of crack session players join her core band, including White — her co-writer on most tunes — Mark Reilly, guitarist Peter White, and a chorus made up of Basia's family and friends. The set opens with "If Not Now Then When," a clever reintroduction to Basia's sound with a slew of new ideas including the use of bossa nova rhythms. Guitars and acoustic keyboards permeate the mix rather than some of the more synthetic '80s and '90s sounds of her earlier records. The lyrics are the same, positive, emotive tomes about honesty, fulfillment, intimacy, and determination she has always employed. "A Gift" is a surprisingly candid tune, about taking another's love for granted and becoming aware of the error before it's too late. The languid acoustic and electric guitars, the gently saittering loops and hand percussion all flavor a lyric of uncommon candor. " Everybody's on the Move" is true, big dancefloor modern funk that is ripe for dozens of remixes. In essence, while on some level hers is a sound close to the one that garnered her platinum album sales in decades past, there is plenty that is new here, including much more sophisticated rhythms, a more adventurous use of Latin, jazz, and Brazilian (particularly the latter) styles as they meld seamlessly with her brand of Eastern European pop, and a more poetic and focused way of writing lyrics, all wrapped up in that gorgeous voice of hers and in White's arrangements. This is as welcome a comeback record as any we've heard in recent years. In fact, It's That Girl Again goes so far as to make us remember just how much we missed her in the first place.
